Tha story of Titanic ship

The Story of the Titanic

The RMS Titanic was a British luxury passenger ship built by the White Star Line. At the time, it was the largest and most advanced ship in the world, often called “unsinkable” because of its modern design and safety features.

  • Construction & Launch

    • Built in Belfast, Ireland, between 1909–1912.

    • It was designed to offer unmatched luxury to the wealthy, with first-class suites, while also carrying hundreds of middle- and lower-class immigrants seeking a better life in America.

  • Maiden Voyage

    • The Titanic set sail from Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912, bound for New York City.

    • It stopped at Cherbourg (France) and Queenstown/Cobh (Ireland) before heading into the Atlantic.

    • On board were about 2,224 passengers and crew.

  • The Tragic Night

    • On the night of April 14, 1912, just four days into its voyage, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic.

    • The impact tore open several of its watertight compartments. The ship was not designed to withstand so many flooding at once.

    • In the early hours of April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank within about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

  • Loss of Life

    • Out of over 2,200 people on board, more than 1,500 died, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters.

    • The tragedy was worsened because there were not enough lifeboats—only enough for about half the people on board.

    • Many women and children were saved, but a large number of men and third-class passengers lost their lives.

  • Aftermath

    • The sinking shocked the world and led to new safety regulations for ships, including lifeboat requirements, continuous radio communication, and better iceberg patrols.

    • The Titanic wreck was discovered in 1985, lying about 12,500 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean.
